BIOGRAPHY: A Tale of Two Lives...
Austin, TX based Lush Logic (aka Jake Scarbrough) spent most of the last 10 years living a double life (the underground musician vs. the corporate citizen). While continually honing his skills as a musician, producer and DJ, working on his music at every opportunity, he was also climbing the ladder as a marketing professional in corporate America with an MBA degree and Commercial Drivers License under his belt. Upon completing an MBA program at an esteemed US institution, and not wanting to go back on the road as a truck driver, he decided to take one of the least musician-friendly jobs available and joined the high tech workforce.
Not one to lament this predicament, Jake made the best of it by using airplanes as his own writing and recording studio. Jake stated in a recent interview, "I was fortunate to get to fly all over the world for work for a few years, and those experiences are directly reflected in my music. I was that guy on the plane with his laptop out and headphones on cranking out beats, basslines, and melodies while everyone else was watching movies, working or sleeping. I found a lot of inspiration on airplanes with all the different types of people, styles, and varying moods, and wrote hundreds of song along the way.”
In the spring of 2006 Jake left the corporate world behind to focus on music full time and enrolled in recording school in Austin, TX. His first full length album under artist name Lush Logic titled Funky Down Tronic, much of which was created over numerous business trips during the previous years, was released in January 2007. Jake is currently working on an electro/deep house EP to be released in the fall of 2007 and the follow up Lush Logic full-length CD targeted for release in early 2008.
Jake is a founding member of the Cosmonopoly DJ Collective and peforms weekly DJ sets under the name Lush Logic (when playing everything from funk to electronica, lounge and trip hop), and under his own name when playing electro and progressive house. He holds a weekly Saturday residency at Maiko in Austin, TX and plays monthly at Austin's Firehouse Lounge Tuesday House Night and on first Fridays at the Brown Bar. He is also the founder and leader of the Lush Logic Orchestra -- a live, 4-piece incarnation of instrumental electronica, jazz, funk and hip hop with turntables, upright bass, jazz keys, and funk guitar.
